Carrier-neutrality' driving colocation growth, Interxion responds to new analyst report

Frost & Sullivan's predicts strong growth in the colocation market, labelling managed web hosting (which is expecting a dramatic rise in sales to $4 billion by 2008)* to be the significant driver.

However, Interxion, Europe's leading provider of data centers and managed services, believes that although this is a positive sign for the industry, 'carrier-neutrality' is the main driver in the colocation industry at the moment. 'Carrier-neutrality' offers corporates and ISPs the flexibility to instantly switch between networks in the event of network downtime or the collapse of a carrier.

Anthony Foy, group managing director for Interxion, believes that firms are looking towards alternative 'carrier-neutral' service providers to ensure business continuity in the event of an outage.

"Carrier-neutrality is becoming an important consideration when customers are assessing our data-center facilities and services," said Foy. "Indeed, I believe this is a significant advantage for us, allowing us to treble the number of our enterprise customers last year, when many traditional carriers were suffering."
