Interxion secures Energy efficiency LEED Gold certification for MAD2 its new Spanish data center


This certification is proof of Interxion's commitment to energy efficiency, not only in data center management but during design and building.

MADRID, September 16 2013. INTERXION HOLDING NV (NYSE: INXN), a leading European provider of carrier and cloud neutral colocation data center services, today announced that its MAD2 data center is the  leader in the Spanish DC industry  achieving LEED Gold certification. It becomes the first and only data center to get this stamp in our country.

LEED certification, promoted by the U.S. Green Building Council association, is an internationally recognized certification system for sustainable buildings. It verifies that buildings are designed and constructed following strategies to improve energy savings, water usage efficiency, reduced CO2 emissions, improved indoor environmental quality, resource management and sensitivity to its effects.

This certification guarantees Interxion's commitment to sustainability, both designing and operating data centers. In this regard, the company seeks continuous optimized energy efficiency through responsible usage, control of CO2 emissions and waste disposal. Interxion, among other actions, uses efficient components in the design of its data centers, measures the power utilization rate of each data center and applies best practices of operational management. Standard components in the design of Interxion data centers are modular architecture to facilitate the use of resources as needed, cold aisle enclosures to house customers’ equipment and free–cooling systems.

In the case of Madrid, 100% of the energy that Interxion provides to its customers comes from renewable sources such as wind, hydro or biomass. This has enabled Interxion to achieve the certification of 100 % renewal energy supply of the Spanish National Energy Commission (CNE).
