Celebrating our Employees on Employee Appreciation Day – and Every Day

By Jan-Pieter Anten, Senior Vice President, Human Resources, Interxion

Since we first started more than 20 years ago, Interxion has grown to operate more than 50 data centres in 13 cities in 11 countries, with more than 2,000 customers. Make no mistake – that kind of incredible growth is something you can only achieve with an extraordinary group of people leading the way.

Our employees are what makes our company unique. Everything we accomplish is because of our people, and we believe that it’s important to show them that they’re appreciated every day of the year. But today on Employee Appreciation Day, we especially want to take a moment to recognise their hard work and talk about how our unique company culture creates an environment where employees feel supported and empowered.

We’re incredibly proud of the culture we’ve built, which places people at the core of our business. Our company culture revolves around these four core values:

  • Courage: We challenge ourselves – and others – to do what is right for our company and customers. That means having the courage to speak up and speak your mind, no matter how difficult it may be. As long as we can maintain an open dialogue, we’ll be able to handle anything that comes up, whether exciting or challenging.
  • Passion: We strongly believe in our company’s mission and what we’re trying to accomplish. Working with passion and pride means never giving up, going the extra mile, and making room to have fun along the journey. Whether it’s employees that work directly for Interxion or outside partners we work alongside, everyone on the team believes in our mission to improve our data centres and our customer experience.
  • Teamwork: Rather than being an organisation built around individual heroes, we pride ourselves on working together as a team to achieve our goals. Everyone brings their unique talents and knowledge to the table, and we know that success only happens when we all work together and support each other.
  • Customer focus: Maintaining growth means keeping a strong eye on the customer. Our employees have a deep understanding of our customer needs, so we’re able to provide the kind of excellent solutions and guidance that make us a trusted partner.

These values inform everything we do, guiding the way we approach our work and encouraging open conversation. We’re always open to change, innovation and adaptation to support our employees. Above all, our culture creates strong ties with our company’s past, keeps us successful in the present, and positions us to succeed in the future.

Our future success depends on our employees. The diversity of our company, with employees who span all age groups and levels of experience and hail from all over the world, brings various unique perspectives that help us innovate, problem-solve and ultimately, continue growing. Across our offices all over Europe, we’re lucky to have a mix of young, fresh talent and senior leaders with deep industry knowledge.

No matter who you are, or what your position within the organisation is, our door is always open. We have made it a point over many years to bring our people in to help guide us as we develop new projects and infrastructure to meet the challenges of the future. This includes steering groups to develop and implement our Service Management Programme and working with focus groups across all countries to create our values, ways of working, employee value proposition and conneXion intranet. We also make sure everyone feels engaged and appreciated through development programmes and our annual employee awards.

This year we’ll recognise 20 employees for 20 years of service, which exemplifies the strong connections we’ve been able to build over the years. We can’t imagine a better way to demonstrate our commitment to investing in our people, and we look forward to toasting these dedicated employees with the respect and celebration they deserve.

When it comes to company culture, our approach mirrors how we expect our people to approach their own work. We know that we might not always get it right on the first try, but we’re always willing to improve. And when we do get it wrong, we want to hear it from our people so we can work to fix it. Our people are our culture and we value them above all.
