Digitalization, sustainability and datacenters

This whitepaper is a study on the relationship between the development of the digital economy in Spain and its influence on sustainable development indexes such as CO2 emissions. Its findings are focused on the effects of the digitalization-sustainability tandem at the macro and microeconomic level.

The digitalization-sustainability combination is evident today: digitalization is an essential requirement to achieve the goals of environmental responsibility, as it contributes to the decarbonization of the economy.

In Spain we have already surpassed the threshold of digital development from which greater digitalization implies lower emissions. The report supports that nowadays a higher digital intensity is associated with a systematic decrease in CO2 emissions per capita.
