Data Centre Sustainability and Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG)

Reduce your data centre carbon footprint

We are committed to sustainably managing our environmental impact and optimizing our use of energy and natural resources. We remain focused on efforts to create green, energy-efficient data centers that improve environmental performance. 100% of our energy used at data centers is from renewable sources. We’ve pioneered energy-saving designs and harnessed everything from arctic winds to underground aquifers to the Baltic Sea to reduce our carbon footprint.

Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG)

Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) practices are key aspects of how we continue to grow our business, engage employees, support customers and minimize our impacts on the environment.

Our Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) Report, reflects the growth and successes of our business, our employees, our customers and the environment. Additional information about our efforts can be found in our ESG report.

Our principles are outlined in our global Sustainability Policy to:

  • Provide sustainable data center solutions that deliver industry-leading energy productivity and resource efficiency, increase client value and lower cost of ownership
  • Empower employees and clients to improve resource efficiency in areas such as energy, water, waste, and carbon
  • Communicate our performance regularly and transparently with stakeholders

Eco-Responsible River Cooling Solution at Marseille Campus

In 2021 we launched the innovative River Cooling solution at our Marseille CampusMRS2, MRS3 and soon MRS4 data centres – located in the port of Marseille.

The €15 million data centre cooling solution, which is up to 30 times more energy efficient than traditional cooling systems, will produce 22 MW of renewable energy annually, while simultaneously mitigating the emission of 795 tons of CO2, the equivalent of 5,500 trees planted each year. It also helps to significantly improve the power usage effectiveness (PUE) of Interxion’s data centres located in the port of Marseille, which will no longer be reliant on electric chillers.

Developed with a circular economy approach in mind, the River Cooling solution will be used to supply the Euromediterranée urban heating network and cover the needs of 500,000sqm of offices and homes.

The River Cooling solution reflects our strong desire to support the development of the digital economy while minimizing the impact of our data centres on the environment. This is a successful example of innovation and circular integration in its territory, enabling our customers to reduce the carbon footprint of their data centres and meet their CSR objectives.

The solution won the DCD Carbon Champion Award which recognizes the world’s most energy-aware and innovative approaches to building and fitting-out sustainable digital infrastructure
