Interxion Wins IT Operator of the Year at Green IT Awards
Underpinning its Sustainability Strategy and Commitment to Driving Data Centre Efficiency
LONDON 29 May 2011 – INTERXION HOLDING NV, (NYSE: INXN), a leading European provider of carrier-neutral colocation data centre services, today announces that it has been named IT Operator of the Year at the Green IT Awards.
Sponsored by Iomart Hosting, BCS, The Chartered Institute of IT and DECC, the best products, projects and talent were recognised at the Green IT Awards ceremony on 19 May. Designed to highlight and reward the excellent work being done in this vital area, the importance of the evening was underlined by the presence of Catalina McGregor, Green IT liaison officer at the United Nations. The winners of each category were decided by a judging panel and the votes of the readers of Green IT Magazine.
Interxion was recognized for its market leading approach to data center efficiency, delivering a track record of performance improvements in Power Usage Effectiveness (PUE). In 2000 Interxion developed the modular approach to design, build and deployment. In effect, modular architecture allows installed infrastructure capacity to be matched to IT load, which leads to a low start-up PUE.
Interxion also stood out due to its high-level collaboration with The Green Grid, The Uptime Institute and the European Commission Joint Research Centre on Sustainability, with whom it continues to work closely to develop, test and agree with the latest efficiency metrics and to support the launch of the current voluntary Code of Conduct on Data Centres.
Commenting on the win, Greg McCulloch UK MD, Interxion, commented, “We are thrilled to have been recognised in the Green IT Awards. With the growth in data and the increasing uptake of third-party data centres, we are under greater pressure than ever to increase efficiency and reduce our carbon footprint. Interxion looks forward to continuing its work with organisations such as the Green Grid and Uptime Institute, to establish efficiency metrics and drive forward the green agenda.”
