LONDON, ENGLAND – June 27, 2018 - INTERXION HOLDING NV (NYSE: INXN), a leading provider of carrier and cloud-neutral colocation data centre services in Europe, today from the Blockchain Summit Conference and Exhibition, announced the general availability of Key Guardian, an encryption key management service that simplifies data protection across private, hybrid and multi-cloud environments.
Businesses undertaking their digital transformation are realising added benefits through the use of hybrid and multi-cloud environments. However, in light of GDPR and today’s sophisticated threat landscape, protecting sensitive data in such dynamic environments remains a major source of concern. As organisations turn to encryption to protect their critical information, securing encryption keys become the priority.
Key Guardian leverages Interxion’s cloud access and interconnected data centre network, to securely store the encryption keys in a dedicated Hardware Security Module (HSM) appliance outside of, but in very close proximity to, the cloud environment. This provides the trust, high performance and scalability that businesses need, while also giving strong auditability with a precise physical location of the keys for compliance.
“Key Guardian is designed to give businesses the trust and flexibility they require and enable the rapid development of applications without compromising on security or compliance,” said Patrick Lastennet director, business development, enterprise at Interxion. “Because Key Guardian leverages proven certified HSM technology and integrates with all of the leading cloud service providers, private on-premise networks, and networks colocated with Interxion, businesses can rest assured knowing that they can enable the right level of data protection for any new digital use case.”
Interxion Key Guardian is an open platform making available HSMs from the leading providers including Gemalto, Thales-e-Security and Utimaco. This gives customers an on-demand dedicated infrastructure to separate encryption material from cloud service providers and adhere to the strictest key management compliance regimes with FIPS 140.2 Level 3 certification. exceet Secure Solutions, a German based provider of security solutions is delivering the customer on-boarding and integration support for the service.
Interxion piloted the service in early 2018, after seeing demand for enhanced encryption services from startups and enterprises seeking to transform the ways that data is shared, and that value is transferred through blockchain technology. While one attraction of blockchain is that its distributed ledger increases trust and security, companies leveraging the technology, like digital identity company Blockchain HELIX, still face the challenge of securing the cryptographic keys that allow access to the ledger but need to be kept away from non-authorised users.
“Our vision at Blockchain HELIX is to enable a trusted and secure digital economy and society, but in order to do that we need to be able to bring the security level of traditional banking systems to our digital identity platform,” said Oliver Naegele, Founder & CEO at Blockchain HELIX. “By using Interxion’s Key Guardian service, we know we have auditable, best-in-class security without the management and maintenance overheads that would normally be required. This enables our team to free up resources to focus on innovation that helps us deliver on our vision.”
Key Guardian is now available and can be connected to, from any Interxion facility across Europe and any Cloud Service Provider available through Interxion’s cloud access service Cloud Connect.
