Data has afforded us a world of opportunity; whether it’s aiding in the discovery of new technology or improving the quality of our everyday lives. However, the knock-on effects for businesses can be substantial. I’m sure you’ve heard the saying: ‘too much of a good thing’. Well, the very same can be said for data. We recently published our inaugural Data Gravity report, a piece of research which looks at the challenges that businesses will face as the amount of data around the world continues to grow.

With AWS Outposts, customers are bringing AWS cloud services to their own data centre environment, which has important implications for the AWS shared responsibility model for security. The AWS shared responsibility model describes the security roles and responsibilities between AWS and the customer. As part of this model, AWS is responsible for the security of the cloud, however as AWS Outposts are deployed outside of AWS’s own data centres, customers are responsible for attesting to physical security and access controls around the AWS Outposts, as well as environmental requirements for their chosen facility.
