We are committed to sustainably managing our environmental impact and optimizing our use of energy and natural resources. We remain focused on efforts to create green, energy-efficient data centers that improve environmental performance. 100% of our energy used at data centers is from renewable sources. We’ve pioneered energy-saving designs and harnessed everything from arctic winds to underground aquifers to the Baltic Sea to reduce our carbon footprint.
Energy is a fundamental component of the services we deliver to our customers. We are committed to managing our resources responsibly now and into the future and are constantly innovating to improve the way we design and operate our energy efficient data centres. This means we are always looking for new ways to optimise energy efficiency, reduce carbon emissions, improve our power usage effectiveness (PUE) and cut waste.
As a leader in the European data centre industry, we strive to set an example of environmental responsibility. In addition to innovations in engineering and diligent operations for maximising energy efficiency across our data centres, Interxion supports and consumes energy from sustainable and low carbon sources to the greatest practical extent in our markets of operation.
A large proportion of our power comes from sustainable sources, including water, solar and wind.
Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) practices are key aspects of how we continue to grow our business, engage employees, support customers and minimize our impacts on the environment.
Our Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) Report, reflects the growth and successes of our business, our employees, our customers and the environment. Additional information about our efforts can be found in our ESG report.
Our principles are outlined in our global Sustainability Policy to:
Our Energy Strategy Group is an internal function dedicated to developing, implementing and governing the energy strategy for Interxion.
With participation and support from senior management, the group’s areas of focus include:
• Intelligent energy buying
• Continually improving our energy efficiency and Power Usage
Effectiveness (PUE)
• Establishing the value of energy as a core service to our customers
Sustainable Water-Cooling Solution at Our Docklands Campus
Facilities within our Docklands campus, specifically our Cloud House data centre, utilize a highly energy-efficient dock water cooling system to reduce energy and water consumption. For customers prioritising sustainable cooling, this system processes deep water from the neighbouring Thames River to regulate temperature in an environmentally-friendly way.
The water-cooling solution reflects our strong desire to support the development of the digital economy while minimizing the impact of our data centres on the environment. This is a successful example of innovation and circular integration in its territory, enabling our customers to reduce their energy consumption and meet their ESG objectives.
We also leverage EkkoSense’s AI and VR driven technology, thermal optimisation software and performance analytics to support our enterprise customers in identifying potential airflow and cooling inefficiencies. Harnessing these technologies has enabled us to reduce our cooling system energy consumption at one of our key London sites by 20% during the first year. We have since made the solution available to our wider customer base to contribute towards our global ESG targets.
